“How do I get started?”

Book an appointment and speak to me personally about setting up an appointment. I may be in session with a client so if I don’t answer, please leave me a message and I will return your call the next business day. The quickest way to make contact with me is via email.

“How does the free 15 minute consultation work?”

Starting a positive relationship with your therapist is an important first step in counselling. To initiate this step, I will provide you a 15 minute telephone assessment at no charge. We can briefly discuss what’s going on for you and why you’re seeking therapy at this time. Once our 15 minutes are up, I will invite you to make an appointment with me in person so that we can begin our first session.

There is no obligation and if we feel my services are not a good fit, I would be glad to recommend another counsellor or service that better meets your needs.

“Where are you located?”

“What is the fee per session?”

I don’t believe the fee should prevent you from seeing a therapist. My professional fees are set in accordance with the fee schedule provided by the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, but I have a sliding scale system for those in difficult financial situations. Please call me and we’ll discuss what your circumstances are, and if we can come up with something that works for both of us. Please see Fees / Insurance for more details.

“What form of payments do you accept?”

I accept cash or cheque at the time of service. Alternatively, you can pay through secure email money transfer, if your bank offers this service.

“Will my insurance cover therapy?”

Extended health care plans or Employee Assistance Programs may cover part or all of the counselling fees. While you are responsible for the fee at the time of the session, I will provide a receipt with my registration number, which you may submit to your insurance company or employer for direct reimbursement.

“How long does each session last?”

I generally schedule 50 minutes sessions once a week. Occasionally, extended sessions are helpful (most often for couples or families) and those can be arranged ahead of time.

“When are appointments available?”

Please contact me for availability. I can generally accommodate daytime, evening and/or weekend appointments.

“What happens if I can’t make an appointment?”

Appointments can be changed or cancelled with 24 hours or more advance notice. This policy must be enforced as I have many clients waiting for appointments. If I am unable to schedule around a cancellation made outside this policy, an invoice will be issued for the missed session.

“Are my therapy sessions confidential?”

I understand that in order to feel comfortable, you need to know that your confidence will be protected. There are a few instances where confidentiality cannot be maintained. Please read my privacy / confidentiality statement for more details.
